Celebrating Earth Day: Our ComMitment

As we celebrate Earth Day 2021, we can take a moment and reflect on what we as a company can do to ensure we are leaving the planet in a better state than what we found it. This year's Earth Day slogan is “Restore our Earth”. This simple yet powerful statement allows us to reflect on what part we have in this mission. We believe that it is imperative to have the smallest environmental footprint possible as a business. We think locally and act globally. Within our companies DNA, from day one, is a commitment to sustainability. Here are some of the actions we have and will take in the future to ensure we are holding up our end of that commitment:

  • Ensure our supply line is sustainably sourced and is coming from companies that are also working to offset their footprint.

  • Switch suppliers when certain standards are not being met in regards to sustainability.

  • Utilize biodegradable dishware at events where we must use single use products.

  • Innovate our water usage by reclaiming as much of our process water as possible into landscape irrigation.

  • Upcycle our spent grain to either local farms or bakeries

  • Upcycle our recoverable solids to local farms

  • Implement a solar power plan in the near future that will offset our energy demand for our production.

  • Implement EV charging stations for our patrons and the patrons of our neighboring businesses

Private industry can be a leader in environmental initiatives, because we have the resources to do so. It is not just something we should do, it’s something we must do. Our small initiatives will make a small impact. The global goal is, for more and more businesses and individuals to take small and executable initiatives that become greater than the sum of their parts.

Environmentalism is nothing new, we can trace back principles of environmental stewardship here in the Americas to the ancient Haudenosaunee Confederacy (known to us as the Iroquois). In their laws, they instituted what we know as the seventh generation principle that applied both to environmental stewardship and relationships. Simply put, a decision made now, should result in sustainability for seven generations in the future. To show how groundbreaking and innovative the Haudenosaunee philosophy was, the United States formed its Constitution on these principles.

For more information on initiatives you can take as an individual or a business, check out the official Earth Day website and learn about the different ways you can take action.

Happy Earth Day!
